The Chesterfield Great Historic Pub Tours will once be running again in 2025. Local history enthusiast and tour guide Shaun Stevenson promises the 2025 tours will be bigger and better. Having fine-tuned the tours over many years, you’ll get the same high quality historical information and humorous delivery from your guide but now there are 3 tours for you to enjoy.
Shaun will give you around 30 minutes at each venue, an oral history of the pub and the option to purchase a drink of your choice. Each tour costs £10 per person if paid with cash on the day (or £8 in person when booked in advance).

Tour 1: Chesterfield Great Haunted Pub Tour
You asked for it, so here it is! Our Chesterfield Pub Tour is diving into the spooky side. Get ready for the 2025 Chesterfield Great Haunted Pub Tour kicking off in May. You’ll be in for a hair-raising journey through the history of 8 haunted pubs, each packed with its own ghostly tales.
Expect stories of murder, fire, and theft, along with the spirits that linger because of them, shared at each spot before we head inside for a drink to calm those nerves. Tours start at the Pig & Pump on St Mary’s Gate at noon, and it’s just £8 if you book ahead.
Tour 2: Brampton Mile Great Historic Pub Crawl
For many years The Brampton Mile Pub Crawl has been Chesterfield’s most formidable drinking challenge. The mile has changed since the days when completing it made you a local legend but with 19 places to buy a drink, it’s still a noble endeavour.
You will hear all about the history of each pub, along with a peek into the past and the stories of pubs, people and industries long since gone. We’ll be stopping at each pub for 30 minutes, to purchase the drink of your choice (we recommend a half). This year we will be running the crawl on Bank Holiday Sundays, and we will be doing it in reverse, just like many did during the 1970s. Starting from the Junction, on Chatsworth Road, at 12:00pm, stopping at almost all of the 19 venues and finishing at the Star, around 8.30pm. You can turn up on the day and pay in cash, £10 per person.

Starting at 12 noon in the Red Lion and moving on to a new venue every 30 minutes or so, the total walking distance is less than a mile. Finishing around 5pm, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people and have a good laugh. Real ales at Very venue and dog friendly.
