THE RUTLAND (23 Stephenson Place, Chesterfield S40 1XL) in Chesterfield’s Town Centre has won the Chesterfield CAMRA Spring Pub of the Season. The presentation of the award was on Tuesday the 23rd July. Chesterfield CAMRA Chair Steve Monaghan congratulated managers Dawn and Martin Alvey as he handed over the certificate.
Located in the shadow of the famous Crooked Spire, the Rutland is a dog-friendly, historical pub. They hold live music events, including a monthly metal night. Martin himself, was a regular on the other side of the bar for many years before taking it over and is keen for the pub to keep its traditional look and atmosphere. Dawn is well known in the trade, having run a number of pubs locally. They bring with them years of expertise, which is reflected in the vast improvements they have made since they have taken over.
The Rutland features a regularly changing line up of cask real ales from local and national breweries like Woodforde’s Brewery, Little Critters, Ashover Brewery, Drone Valley Brewery, Brampton Brewery, Dancing Duck Brewery and Abbeydale Brewery. Dancing Duck’s Eyup! (Pale Ale – English, 3.9% ABV) has become one of the pub’s most popular pints. You don’t have to go back so far to see the pub closed, so this transformation into one of Chesterfield’s must-visit pubs is quite remarkable indeed. Well done to all the Rutland’s team.
