Nestled in the heart of Derbyshire, the newly established Ashover Brew Co hopes to be making waves in the world of brewing with its fresh, bold approach to brewing. Located in the village of Clay Cross, a stone’s throw away from the scenic Ashover, this exciting new brewery combines innovative techniques with a rich appreciation for local heritage, offering something truly special for beer enthusiasts.
The original Ashover Brewery was founded in 2007 and over the years has won numerous industry-wide awards for their beers. Unlike most breweries they sourced their flavourings from local suppliers, home growers and farms as well as their own foraging efforts. Ashover brewery was founded in 2007 by Roy Shorrock & Kim Beresford at the Old Poets Corner public house in Ashover Chesterfield Derbyshire. The aim was to bring the local real ale enthusiast something exciting in their local pub. Very quickly after experimenting with flavours and brewing techniques the popularity of the beers grew and so did the range.
Ashover Brewery continued to grow and brew at the Old Poets Corner right up to 2015. Demand got so high that Kim & Roy had no choice than to expand in to an industrial unit in Clay Cross and run efforts at both sites for a short time. During the years Ashover Brewery have won awards with CAMRA, SIBA and at several beer festivals. In 2020 Kim & Roy decided it was time to enjoy retirement. But Roy’s daughter, Janine, stayed on as head brewer, with Brian Exford as sales and office manager.
Unfortunately, due to several factors the brewery then slipped into liquidation. A group of locals believed this was a great loss to the area and decided to do something about it and Ashover Brew Co. was born…
Founded by a passionate team of brewers and entrepreneurs, Ashover Brew Co is spearheaded by Head Brewer Janine Shorrock, a talented brewer whose dedication to the craft shines through in every brew. With the support of co-owners Lewis Bassett, Andy Clarke, Richard Walker, Jon Hardwick, Gethin Jones, and Richard Crabb, Ashover Brew Co is poised to become a household name in the ever-evolving brewing scene. The final keys to the puzzle are Ashover stalwart Brian Exford and enthusiastic new-hire Assistant Brewer, Jack Burton who are both valuable assets to the brewery.
“Our vision is to create beers that are as unique and varied as the people who enjoy them,” says Lewis Bassett. “We want to create beers that are approachable yet complex, with something for every palate. But at the same time, we want to stay true to our local roots – everything we do is inspired by the area’s rich brewing history and the stunning Peak District that surrounds us.”
